H7 Story: Discipleship

It’s Not All About the Grown-ups!
Monday nights at Regeneration are about recovery, discipleship, and life transformation. However, these evenings are not just for adults! There is a place for our kids on Monday Nights as well. If your parent is attending Re:Gen or Re|Engage, you get to attend MNK (Monday Night Kids). Any child from birth through fifth grade is welcome to be there, but in order for the children to be there, we need adult humans that want to help with this ministry too.

At FCC, we don’t consider MNK to just be a babysitting service. Each Monday night, kids are taught various aspects of the gospel. For two hours, the leaders get to have fun while teaching the gospel to young people spending the evening with them. We are intentional about sharing Jesus with our youngest attendees. And this is especially powerful because a lot of the individuals attending re:gen or re|engage would not be able to participate in the ministry without this service.

If you or your child attends MNK, then you definitely know Jeff and Kay Grissom. They have been leading the Early Childhood (birth-Pre-K) program for over a year. When asked if they would like to rotate serving so that they don’t have to be there every Monday, they replied with, “Why would we do that? We love serving here!" How cool!

Monday Night Kids is a hard ministry, and we have had so many people in and out through the years,” Samantha Schubert, Early Childhood Director said. It’s Monday – the first day of the work week – and it is also over two hours long. But Jeff and Kay Grissom stepped up to the task and have been serving in Early Childhood every Monday. It is so important that parents are able to not worry about their children during these meetings, and the Grissoms have made that possible.

Jeff and Kay are special because of their reliability and because they have such an obvious love for the ministry,” Samantha continued. “The kids and parents love them so much! Even when I walk into a classroom to teach for the night, the kids ask me ‘Why are you here?! Where are Jeff and Kay?!’ And that is exactly how it is supposed to work. They are amazing for the Monday Night Kids Team!

However, recently, a new group of individuals have stepped up to help with childcare on Mondays: young men! Everyone knows that women typically lead children’s ministries. However, the unique thing about MNK is that our elementary program is led by multiple teenage boys and young men including Micah Jenkins, Abraham Milam, and Jackson Radank. It is so amazing to see these young men selflessly pour into kids! Each of these high school guys are interested in pursuing vocational ministry and are using this as a time of growth in their desire to be a part of church ministry. Abraham explained why he serves by saying, “I serve on kids’ min Monday nights to show the love of Christ to the kids and to help disciple the kids to grow their knowledge of God from the Bible."

Whether you are attending re:gen or re:engage yourself, or you are a child attending, or you are one of the amazing people serving in MNK each Monday evening, what we are seeing is a powerful reminder that healing and growth aren’t just for individuals but the whole church family.
