H7 Story: Team Ball Award # 1
“We enjoy the fellowship of mutual surrender to the mission.”
In sports, when someone hits some sort of career milestone or they have a particularly amazing game, the team will often award them a game ball. Years ago, we decided that even though we aren’t an athletic program, we can do the same here at FCC!
Our unity with Christ is reflected in our unity with one another. When we are a team, we show to whom we belong. We display the character and nature of God. We are bearing with one another in love and demonstrating humility, patience, and gentleness. You have to be humble to serve on a team and not act as if the team is there to serve you. You have to be gentle as you work with others. And you must demonstrate patience as you work to not be easily offended.
Every Year at Team Bash, we award “Team Balls” to some examples of FCCers who embody our team’s goals. Over the next few weeks, we will be highlighting the individuals who received our “Team Balls” this year!
1 Peter 4:10 encourages us to, “Use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace.” Jeff and Kay Grissom have done exactly that.

Samantha Schubert, Early Childhood Director said, “Monday Night Kids is a hard ministry and we have had so many people in and out through the years. Jeff and Kay are special because of their reliability for over a year and because they have such an obvious love for the ministry. The kids and parents love them so much! Even when I walk into a classroom to teach for the night, the kids ask me ‘Why are you here?! Where are Jeff and Kay?!’ And that is exactly how it is supposed to work. They are amazing for the Monday Night Kids Team!”
As Samantha explained, finding someone to care for children on Monday evening during re|engage and re:generation has never been an easy task. It’s Monday – the first day of the work week – and it is also over two hours long. But Jeff and Kay Grissom stepped up to the task and have been serving in Early Childhood every Monday for over a year. It is so important that parents are able to not worry about their children during these meetings, and the Grissoms have made that possible.

Kay explained that her favorite part is “Being with the kids, playing with the kids and watching their faces as they learn.”
Jeff has been struggling with a loss in vision, however, that has not stopped him from faithfully serving. As he explained: “A visual inconvenience helps the creativity and ability to laugh at myself. I love playing with the kids on Monday nights. I am limited but God fills in the gaps.”
